Finding More Than My Focus:
Prelude

An Instinctive Choice
Late in 2020 I took an online photography course on 'Finding your Focus' with Rachel Wright.
I'd heard about it during an earlier course I’d taken with Ruth Davey and three of us (including Ruth herself) met again to be inspired by Rachel on a course described as:
‘giving you the opportunity to … explore different genres of photography, discover more about different types of photography that excite you and develop your own individual style. Each week we will look at a different genre, discuss selected examples and explore it through our own lens.’
It certainly achieved that. I found my focus and far, far more.
For some weeks after the courses, Rachel and Ruth seemed conjoined in my mind, primarily because they shared many of the same qualities and attributes – both were inspiring, creative, imaginative, supportive and encouraging; both created a safe space which gave participants the confidence to explore deeply personal topics. But they’ve become more distinctive recently. Ruth’s course delivered immediate benefits to my wellbeing (discussed HERE) whereas we explored focus, creativity, self-expression and artistry with Rachel. These ideas are bearing fruit more slowly and I’m certain you’ll see them increasingly in my work over the coming months.
Rachel's course was supported and facilitated by ‘Artpocket’, a collaboration of creative artists and independent art school in Norwich. You can visit their website [ HERE … ] and Rachel's website [ HERE … ]
