My second idea was also pre-visualised – with the end result again clear in my mind – but this time using different media.

I selected a simple ‘portrait’ of a yellow tulip from my back-catalogue, produced a digital negative of it and created a cyanotype print (below). Then, staying with 19th century styles, I post-processed the original image in the manner of the earliest forms of photography and made a digital-frame for it, based on an old family portrait – one of my great-grandma, Ellen Maud Barker (b.1865).
